CARMINE's STORY

ABOUT CARMINE (CARMINUCH) & "THE CARMINE SHOW"

The 2023-2024 season for the Woodbridge Wolfpack 2014 AAA hockey team was marked by development, challenges, and standout individual achievements. Among the players who made a significant impact was goaltender Carmine Franco, who navigated a season of transition, overcoming obstacles to establish himself as a reliable and competitive force on the ice.

Playing Up and Expanding His Reach

With a strong desire to compete in the 2014 division, Carmine accepted an offer to serve as the only goalie for the 2015 AAA full-ice team, embracing the challenge of representing the squad in a high-pressure competitive environment. This opportunity allowed him to refine his skills and develop as a leader in net.

In addition to his commitment to the NJ Avalanche, Carmine also worked with the Merrimack Islanders Elite 2015 team as an alternate goalie, supporting their full-time netminder. His dedication to the Islanders was established early in the season, and he frequently played for both teams—competing in the EHF with the Islanders and the AHF (NJ Blizzards) with the Avalanche.

Season Highlights and Recognition

Despite a strong campaign, the Islanders Hockey Club fell short in the semifinals, preventing Carmine from competing in the playoffs due to his alternate status. Nevertheless, he remained a dedicated team presence, supporting his teammates and celebrating their efforts. The Islanders finished with an impressive 26-3-3 record, totaling 55 points and securing 2nd place in the 2015 Elite standings.

Carmine’s performances in the AHF were exceptional. His consistency, competitiveness, and commitment earned him a nomination to the AHF All-Star event, where he showcased his talent with a standout performance. His efforts throughout the season led to him being ranked as the #1 goalie in the AHF for 2023.

Recognition in the Woodbridge Wolfpack

Carmine’s stellar season with the Woodbridge Wolfpack did not go unnoticed. He was honored by the THF with the FIRST TEAM ALL-SEASON goalie award, recognizing his dedication and contributions. His efforts reflected not only individual excellence but also the spirit of resilience and teamwork that defined the Wolfpack’s season.

Path to the Brick Invitational

Carmine continued to challenge himself at the highest level, earning Top 35 goalie status for the Biosteel Series with the Connecticut Junior Rangers, followed by the Cwench Series, where he was identified as a Brick Invitational prospect.

In the 2024 spring season, Carmine had the privilege of playing for both Top 35 teams—the Connecticut Junior Rangers and the Boston Junior Bruins. Rather than taking time off for baseball or lacrosse, he remained committed to his path toward the Brick Invitational, dedicating himself entirely to hockey.

His passion for competition led him to travel for tournaments across the U.S. and Canada, competing in Connecticut, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, Rhode Island, Boston, New Jersey, Florida, and various Canadian provinces.

Brick Tournament Tryouts & Determination

During the Junior Bruins Brick team tryouts, Carmine’s dedication and perseverance were on full display. He earned a spot in the TOP 68, showcasing his elite talent. His commitment to extra training, constantly refining his skills, cemented his reputation as a goaltender ready to compete at the highest level.

However, beyond his technical ability, Carmine’s outgoing, team-first mentality made him a valuable presence. Whether cheering on teammates, cracking jokes, or lifting spirits, his leadership and camaraderie set him apart. His personality enhanced team morale, making him a player coaches and teammates wanted on their side.

Memorable Moments & Motivation

While Carmine’s competitive mindset and strong personality are among his greatest strengths, his loyalty and determination to earn respect push him even further. These qualities have earned him several nicknames, shouted by teammates and coaches in moments of triumph:

  • "Carminuch"
  • "Franco"
  • "The BIG RAGU"

These chants serve as fuel for motivation, driving Carmine to perform at his best, ensuring he never lets down those who believe in him.

Continuous Growth & Future Outlook

Carmine continues to train with top goaltending coaches in various locations, utilizing specialized techniques from each coach. Whether reviewing video analysis, footwork drills, or high-speed reaction training, Carmine’s hunger for improvement continues to grow.

Beyond his technical work, Carmine’s showmanship, bubbling personality, and unexpected celebrations ("celies") on the ice captivate audiences, making people stop and watch, never knowing what he will do next—whether as a goalie or as an entertainer.

Conclusion

The 2023-2024 season was a defining moment for Carmine Franco, filled with challenges, achievements, and unwavering dedication to hockey. His relentless work ethic, competitive mindset, and commitment to his teams have reinforced his reputation as a driven and talented athlete.

With his continued pursuit of excellence and preparation for The Brick Invitational, Carmine enters his next chapter with confidence, ready to make his mark in one of the most prestigious youth hockey tournaments in the world.
